Animal Farm

Book jacket/cover, 3D typography
January 2020

A book jacket design for the book Animal Farm with 3D Typography and very limited photo editing. The type Animal Farm was hand-drawn on acetate instead of printed to create a burnt look. The acetate was then put above the fire and blow-dried to create a wobbling surface, which later the digital type George Orwell would imitate in style. The acetate was finally set under a red light on a white background and being photographed. Shadow and reflections from the uneven surface of acetate create an illusion of fire— corresponding to one important plot of the book where animals burn the possessions of humans— and symbolize the pain and burning of the authoritarian society.
